What is capoeira?
Capoeira is a 500 year old Brazilian martial art that combines fighting, dance, rhythm and movement. Capoeira is a dialog between players. After learning movements, practitioners play together in a roda (circle).
Who are we?
Capoeira Baton Rouge is a chapter of Grupo Senzala de Capoeira under the tutelage of Mestre Zumbi. Classes are led by Andorinha and Hobbit.
Founded in 1963 in Rio de Janeiro, and in 1999 on the East Coast of the United States, Senzala is rooted in the history of Capoeira. Principles of community, respect and teamwork are present in all aspects of our work.
